mixed up monday: page turner playlist

on 07-09-2012

Before I dreamed of being a writer, I wanted to be a reader. Not an editor, reviewer or agent — those words weren’t even in my orbit when I was devouring FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER and A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN. And if they had been, they wouldn’t have made the mark. I didn’t want to edit, critique or promote — just let each page turn pull me deeper into another world.

And if my dream job ever lead to a promotion, it would have been to “summer reader.” My responsibilities? Diving  headfirst into  book after book with the wild abandon that mirrors the season at hand.

This summer, I am truly in heaven as a co-founder of theBOOKPROJECT, the book club and literary social that’s a  prototype for a national movement. It’s a thrill to  serve up eclectic reading experiences and see bookworms of all ages gather for raucous discussions followed by cocktails with friends old and new.

My book brain has definitely been on overdrive, and I started jotting down songs sparked by books — characters, storylines, places, authors. And then, I found added a few songs that inspired books.

The result? Pages of music that will provide you with hours of literary listening pleasure. Consider this playlist of 25 page-turning songs to be the first of many chapters to come.

Now it’s time to settle into your hammock/ beach chair/ summer relaxation spot of choice and click on the photo below to tune in. And don’t forget to grab a book.
